Two Republican message-crafters who are well known within party circles but who in this presidential campaign find themselves outside looking in — Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan — offered unvarnished opinions of the Sarah Palin VP pick today when they thought they were un-miked after an appearance on MSNBC. The mikes turned out to be hot, their thoughts were not complimentary toward John McCain’s choice and the comments quickly made their way onto YouTube. for those who don’t know, tony schumacher is an nhra top fuel dragster driver who has been tearing it up this year. like busch, schumacher has already clinched the number one spot in the playoffs and is enjoying a dream season. he has won the last six top-fuel events in a row and 11 of the 18 races so far this year. on tuesday, busch and schumacher were the first to race at the new zmax dragway recently completed at lowe’s motor speedway in concord, where the nhra nationals will be held for the first time september 11th-14th. the two raced in a “best-of-three” format running in identically prepared toyota camry pace cars. one of them won the first race and took the second by default when the other “red-lighted.” then the president of lowe’s motor speedway called an audible, changing the rules and making the event a single heat “winner-take-all.” who do you think won that last race? was it the same driver who won the first two? for those who saw it and already know, let those who didn’t see it guess please… and no fair looking it up… for those who don’t want to wait: http://www.lowesmotorspeedway.com/news_photos/news/534874.html quote of the day: schumacher who joked afterwards, “i already don’t like him.”

I know California was originally founded and named by Mexican colonists, but do they think it belongs to them? I mean with this recent influx of unprecedented Mexican’s it sends this message of “this is our’s now and we’re going to pretty much take it over!” This is not a racial issue, but seriously whats youre next plan make spanish the next language. Im a liberal person, but it feels likes downright anarchy where I live in San Rafael, Ca. Its Mexico City here! You dont know whos legal or whos illegal and it just seems like chaos! I like hispanic people as a race, but their needs to be some sort of law and nothing seems to be done about it. There is definately a lot of under the radar activity going on.

It just makes me sick that they attack Obama’s race like he is some kind of heretic. McCain wants to talk about Obama’s lack of experience in politics but then he decides to make his v.p. candidate a 1yr senator?? Lack of experience? Oh but she is a woman so my guess is that he is trying to turn former Hilary Clinton followers to vote for him. And the way he uses his POW experience as a form of currency. So because he was a prisoner of war, now I should vote for him? Why..so he can use his power as president to attack other countries just because he is prejudice? He just sounds like a racist bastard to me. Lack of experience and set-in-ones-ways I believe are too different things. As you can see, Bush’s plan hasn’t made things any better since day one but worse. McCain has always been a supporter of Bush and his actions. So I guess what I mean to say is that maybe McCains so called experience in politics is the reason the U.S. is in such crappy shape the way it is. That’s just my opinion. Both sides…what do you think?

I really am curious. I have never seen overt racism where I live. I have heard all the jokes you can tell about every race, gender, nationality, blonde jokes, etc. but come on.. those are just jokes, get over yourself. The type of racism I am curious about is the kind where people are actually denied a job cuz of skin color. or denied a loan cuz of skin color, stuff like that, does this still exist or is it just a cop out some people use to explain why they were denied? And sometimes I think racism is given more power from the African-American community then what actually exists in the Caucasion community. Maybe I am just naive….
Just to give a more detailed description of my background. I am 45, white, Canadian citizen living over 35 years on the western coast of US. I have one neice who married a Jamaican man and they just had a baby. Our whole family embraces their unity. No one bat an eye. I just guess I have been lucky enuf not to see racism. I cannot comprehend some of the stories you folks are telling. It is amazing it is happening in the 21st century….

it was announced yesterday that the same “differential” tapered spacer rule would be implemented in the truck series as in the nationwide series, assumedly because of dyno results on engines tested after the bristol race. so twice in one year, rule changes have been made based upon dyno tests on engines after races kyle busch won them… from: http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headlines/truck/09/03/truck.rule.amendment/index.html “At all Events, unless otherwise specified, all engines with a cylinder bore spacing less than 4.470 inches must compete using a tapered spacer with four (4) 1.125-inch diameter holes. At all Events, unless otherwise specified, all engines with a cylinder bore spacing of 4.470 inches or more must compete using a tapered spacer with four (4) 1.100-inch diameter holes. Unless otherwise authorized, the carburetor restrictor will be issued by NASCAR.” the questions: 1) does anyone know if this rule affects only the toyotas in the truck series, or are any other teams using engines from other manufacturers - particularly chevy - that fit the criteria to have to use the stricter restrictor plate? 2) does anyone else find it interesting that although there were previous dyno tests in both series that did not bring about a rules change, such changes were made after testing engines at tracks where kyle busch won? or is that mere coincidence? personally, i don’t think there’s any conspiracy as the plans for the tests had to be made before the race was even run, so the winner could not have been known. but i do find it interesting that no change has been deemed necessary in the truck series in the past, and toyotas have been competing in that series longer without the obvious domination there was in the nationwide series this year. heck, not only does jgr not field trucks, but ron hornaday won the championship last year racing in a chevrolet. for the record, i am not trying to make any statement (at least not here) on the fairness of the rule. it was just my understanding that nascar wouldn’t let toyota run the same engine in nationwide and cup that they ran in the truck series. plus toyota has run very well in the truck series, but nothing like the dominance jgr teams showed in nationwide. and finally, i didn’t know if the R07 had been approved already for the trucks - the article didn’t say.
