Open Question: Do you think that religion has slowed down the human race?

We all know that religion has nearly stopped Darwin from making one of the most important discoveries ever. And many other scientists have been slowed down or even forced into death my religious people who are not interested in scientific truth. Right now things like embryo mixing and genetic selections which could get rid of things like cancer and HIV in the future are being researched but once again religious leaders are slowing down the scientific process as they have always done by saying things related to embryos or animal testing are unethical - actually I'm pretty anti animal testing myself but there is no way that embryo testing is wrong. In my view if not for religion we would have already had a man on Mars and cancer or HIV would have been a thing in the past. I think whoever Jesus was he did more harm then good. Don't forget what the Romans and Egyptians + others did before Jesus's influence. I do agree that religion is at times important as it keeps us from doing really unethical things. But I also think that common sense is just as helpful.
