Open Question: what kind of mustang can have racing stripes?

i have a '65 mustang that i just picked up a year ago. the guy before me painted (himself) a set of ugly ass stripes on it. its a stock 289 v6. i was looking to get the car repainted and i just wanted to be historically correct. thanks
