If you go to places in Africa & Americas where Spanish & Portuguese conquered, you find very many brown skinned mixed race native/European peoples (Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Rep, Angola, etc.), but where British & French conquered, there are very few. Were British & French too stuck up to mix with native Africans & Americans?

Its an old black & white movie from the 1950s (I guess). I remember the ending: Each says good-bye & drives off in their own car in different directions. They both feel guilty & turn around & race to eachother & confess theres bombs in each cars! I think they embrace & the movie ends. Its not Mr & Mrs Smith (2005) or the 1941 movie with the same name.

Hi - I’m doing Grandma’s Marathon on June 21 and am following Hal Higdon’s Novice 2 schedule.
It was going well, but I had a sore ankle tendon a few weeks ago and took almost a week off. It kind of threw a wrench in my mileage.
Here’s my weekend long run history in the past few weeks:
4/5 14
4/12 15
4/19 13.1 (half marathon race, tweaked tendon around mile 10, not painful, ran through it)
4/26 Took the week off, ran a 10K on 4/26 so 6.2
5/3 17.4 (felt fine)
5/10 18.75
During the week, I have three more runs totaling around 18 miles, so my weeks are around 35 miles.
I think I need to dip today to around 12 or 13. My last long run, a 20 miler, is scheduled for 5/31 before a 3 week taper before the race on 6/21.
Lots of numbers here, I know - but if you’re a serious runner, I’m sure you can relate!
Any advice on what I should do today and the next couple of weekends?
(the ankle is 100% fine now)

In this country a few people have tride to get more tracks built but have met with great resistance due to environmental issues (air and noise polution). Which is worse killing people on the streets or poluting their environment?

Open Question: Do you think that religion has slowed down the human race?
Posted by carposter Published in NewsWe all know that religion has nearly stopped Darwin from making one of the most important discoveries ever. And many other scientists have been slowed down or even forced into death my religious people who are not interested in scientific truth.
Right now things like embryo mixing and genetic selections which could get rid of things like cancer and HIV in the future are being researched but once again religious leaders are slowing down the scientific process as they have always done by saying things related to embryos or animal testing are unethical - actually I’m pretty anti animal testing myself but there is no way that embryo testing is wrong.
In my view if not for religion we would have already had a man on Mars and cancer or HIV would have been a thing in the past. I think whoever Jesus was he did more harm then good.
Don’t forget what the Romans and Egyptians + others did before Jesus’s influence.
I do agree that religion is at times important as it keeps us from doing really unethical things. But I also think that common sense is just as helpful.

Someone told my husband that Dale Jarret drove the UPS truck around the track before the race last night (MAY 17th). Is this true or was he blowing smoke? We don’t get Speed channel so we watched the race recap on nascar.com this morning and could find nothing about it. Any clarification??

His work college told him that it was done before the race started.

Open Question: What exactly makes Barack Obama more liberal than Hillary Clinton?

Open Question: Why do some people think they are born with wilderness survival skills?

What I am asking is why do some folks think that they are born to survive in a wilderness?
Even Native Americans aren’t born with the skills of their ancestors. Yet I have met quite a few people of all races who think they just know it all, about how nature works and how to survive in it.
This has scared me for them many times, like a young man who wants to “live off the land” in a remote area, who will not listen to experienced advice, nor seek such advice.
How do you get it across to them that having a gun and knife doesn’t make you an instant wilderness survivalist?

People are getting killed in remote places, from the deserts of the south west, the woods and swamps in the Deep South, through the Rockies and the rest of North America, from inexperience, lack of outdoor skills and lack of proper equipment.
How can we get across to such people to save their lives?
Our Government spends millions warning us about everything from cigarettes to cosmetics, but not that the outdoors can kill you. Don’t you think this should be taught in every classroom in America?
Do you have any idea how to save some of these lives?

METRO.. you have an excellent point. However I live where these kinds of people visit; remote Alaska, and every year we have people die here. I used to help search and rescue some years ago look for such people. And I have helped recover what was left of them IF we found them. I found a family of 5 and a big dog, in a small inflatable raft 8 miles from shore, with no life jackets. It took me a ½ hour to convince the moron dad that their lives were in peril. He had no clue, but the Coast Guard gave him a few after I called them! Stupid people or not that was lives saved.
